which is better to use: crush & run or asphalt driveway (sloped area)
We have a gravel driveway and also need to put in a second driveway. If cost
is not a huge factor, which would be better to use - crush & run or asphalt
(or concrete)
Asphalt requires alot of up keep, if you can afford it concrete
will hold up much better. However if you can not afford the concrete
asphalt will hold up better than stone which tends to wash out in heavy
rains.
do you live in an area where you may have to move snow??? if so
go with the asphalt. big problem with asphalt though is that it will
develope ruts if you park on it, this may take a long time but they will
appear if parked on when hot ie. summer.
i live in the north east, so gravel isnt an option. i am going to be
redoing my driveway in the spring, will be installing concrete in the areas that we park in (near the garage) the lower section will be asphalt.
Go with concrete. You don't have to put that stinky black crap
on it every year.
asphalt works well in heavy water areas or where its steap.
chrusher run works well on flat areas
concrete is best if you can afford it, if not gravel is
probably better than blacktop in the long run, blacktop will bust up & get
uneven in time.
asphalt or concrete will not erode.
if done right, concrete can drain well and last the longest.
